Halofall (Titanfall-Halo Crossover)

Post by Darth Wiggles on Sat May 10, 2014 10:09 pm

UNSC Infinity, Epsilon Eridani system orbiting Reach
June 1, 2558
Reach, it was once a beautiful world, lush and green, and alongside Earth, it served as the center of humanity's military might. Now all of that is gone: the world burned to ash and glass and the ships and buildings blasted to slag. Like hundreds of worlds before, it served as a reminder for the horrors committed by the Covenant in their attempts at genocide; but to some, it served as the point of despair and hopelessness in the war, as it seemed like Reach was untouchable before it fell. When the war ended, most of the reconstruction efforts were focused solely on re-terraforming the planet to make it habitable once more. However, the Infinity wasn't here to aid in the rebuilding efforts, it was here for something else.
A lone Phantom dropship approaches one of the many hangers the massive human ship contains; and under normal circumstances the 32 meter long dark purple ship would have been shot down by the Infinity's point defense weapons before it could even appear as a tiny speck to the occupants inside the hanger, but given who it belonged to and its mission here, it was brought aboard.

It all started several weeks ago the Sangheili leader, Arbiter Thel 'Vadam proposed to the UEG government and its military leaders in the UNSC security council about an "exchange program" of sorts in order to promote peaceful relations between his faction and humanity. The reaction was mixed, with the most vocal one against the idea was ONI Rear Admiral Serin Osman for....unspecified reasons, with the biggest supporter for it, Fleet Admiral Lord Terrence Hood, managing to convince the other members of high command to pass the idea, and as a result one sangheili was to enter a squad of Spartan-IVs each and vice-versa, starting on the flagship for humanity, the UNSC Infinity.

After less than a minute, the Phantom gently floats through the shielding keeping the atmosphere inside and hovers several dozen feet above the ground as a gravity lift along its underside activates, allowing a Sangheili wearing black Ranger armor with a crimson visor to float down onto the ground and is greeted by half a dozen rifle barrels courtesy of a squad of marines before the figure in the center, a female Spartan-IV wearing teal Venator armor with yellow highlights, raises her hand to make them stand down as she approaches.
Miranda: Fal 'Chunam? Commander Palmer requested for me to escort you over to Deployment Hanger 2-19.

After quite some time traversing the massive ship, the two finally arrive in said hanger bay finding Commander Sarah Palmer standing in the middle of the empty room while looking over the two, with quite noticeable contempt as she looks over (my Sangheili character's name).
Commander Palmer: Spartan Miranda Johnson, ever since you were transferred onto the Infinity , not only were you the best Spartan in Fireteam Crimson, you were also able to achieve the highest scores in every War Games match you participated in, you quickly and effortlessly ascended to the highest ranking. But out of all of your kills with every weapon and every vehicle, one stood out the most.
With that, a large section of the floor opens as a platform rises carrying the unmistakable form of a Mantis mech.
Commander Palmer: You're here because your performance with a Mantis surpasses nearly every other weapon you use. But apparently the Eggheads thought that the Mantis wasn't "fast" or "versatile" which made it easy for the alien freaks following Jul 'Mdama to exploit and destroy them, so when they hired a new manufacturing company called the Interstellar Manufacturing Company, they shipped us some units and a commander to instruct you. Another section of the floor opens to reveal a new mech standing several meters taller than the Mantis as well as having a more recognizable humanoid form instead of the silly chicken walker design of the Mantis.
Commander Palmer: This is the Titan Mech, Atlas unit.
(the cockpit opens up, revealing its pilot, who disembarks the Titan, and leaps down onto the ground)
Palmer: And its pilot, Close-Quarters-Combat Sergeant Yukon Peppercorn.
The Spartan Commander turns to the pilot in question as the he removes his helmet, revealing a weathered and bearded face.
Palmer: Now I'm sure you read the data pad that was given to you about your trainees as well as what to expect for where you'll be deployed. You're to be their squad leader, and your job is to teach these two everything there is to piloting their new toys.
She looks at Miranda and Fal, but specifically the Spartan.
Palmer: As for you Spartan, you have two jobs. The first is to keep an eye on Squid Head, make sure he doesn't try anything funny; but more important, you're also going to babysit Sergeant Peppercorn as he teaches you two.

Yukon: *gives Palmer a weird look for the "babysitting" comment, then regards the Spartan and the alien* Either of you have any experience with piloting large metal men with guns?

Miranda nods while a faint click came from Fal's direction.
Miranda: Yes and no. I've had plenty of combat experience with the Mantis mech right that's next to your Titan as the highest scores in War Games simulations with one. But I would not classify Mantis mechs as "large metal men with guns," they're more like "giant metal chickens with autocannon and multi-barrel missile launcher".
Fal: I have never dealt with two legged mechs, though I have served aboard Locust and Scarab platforms.

Locust and Scarab mechs ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

And "babysitter" comment is cause Palmer is an actual arrogant bitch in the games themselves. But the very specific part that's most relevant to you is that she essentially gives very little regard towards non-Spartans
"Spartan Sarah Palmer, Infinity Commander to all Navy, Army, and Marine forces, you can relax. The Spartans are here."
"Once again, Spartans do in 24 minutes what Marines can't do in 24 hours."

(later, in the Titan test chamber, each pilot is in a special Titan cockpit hooked up to a VR display on the viewscreen, each Titan in a virtual battleground. Yukon walks his Titan over to stand over the trainee pilots)
Yukon: The legs of the Titan will respond to your leg movements, and its arms by your arm movements. It's easy, just like piloting an F2-Thunderstorm, you never forget. *walks backwards a bit* Now follow me. Think you can handle that?

Miranda: Yeah....yeah I'm familiar with that concept.
The Spartan's Titan takes a few steps forward as she makes herself become used to the mech's controls while Fal's Titan starts to twist the body of his titan around, doing the same.

Yukon: Fal is there any reason you're twisting around like a drunk teenager?

Fal: Is it not obvious, human? I'm doing the same thing the Spartan is to get used to the controls in this contraption, and I don't have much experience using human vehicles.

Yukon: J-just try and walk like you normally walk. With your entire body facing forward.

Fal just gives a slight growl in annoyance but otherwise does as told.
Miranda: So what should we expect in this simulation?

Yukon: First off we need to go over movement basics, then onto weapons training. After that is pilot training. You can do parkour, right? Free-running?

Miranda: Yeah, I've been trained in that field, and we have plenty of armor abilities to increase our effectiveness there. And I assume Fal does as well given that he's wearing Ranger armor.
Fal: And you would be correct on that, Spartan.

Yukon: Okay, enough chit-chat. Now, a Titan can do anything a pilot can do, except jump. But! We can get a short, quick boost forward. *turns around, and boosts over to a building* Now you try it.

Miranda: Um...how do we do that?
She looks around the cockpit, not finding anything.
Miranda: I don't see anything in here on a boost funct- Oh here it is.
Her Titan starts sprinting over to the building Yukon boosted over to, with Fal's Titan close behind her.

Yukon: Alright, next is weapons training. And I'm not talking about some weak-ass pistol. Nope. Press the red button to equip your Titan's gun. *presses his button, and his Titan grabs the Quad-Rocket cannon mounted on its back* This...this is Vira. My very favorite gun.

.......
Should we skip to when we get to the action?

Miranda: Hmm, looks impressive. But....
The Spartan presses a button and her Titan grabs a 70mm autocannon from its back.
Miranda: I prefer to have something that's reliable with an extremely high rate of fire.
Fal's titan pulls out a focus cannon, mounting it onto the titan's arm like how a Hunter would its gun.

(after a montage of training exercises, the three find themselves in an active combat scenario. The rubble of a city on a border planet. In the dropship, Yukon briefs the spartan and the alien.)
Yukon: Okay, we're up against the Militia here. Pretty much like the Covenant or whatever it was you fought back where you came from, except...less alien parts? Now this is attrition. If it moves and it's not one of ours, shoot it. You're deployed on foot and your Titan's ready in two minutes. Command will let you know when it's ready, so just press this green button on your vest for Titanfall. *taps on a green button attached to his combat vest* Right then. Try to survive. *leaps out of the dropship when it's still in midair, landing flawlessly on the ground, and climbing into a second-story window of the nearest building*

The three are inside a room lined with human entry vehicles, facing a yellow hologram of a British WWII pilot, the Infinity's AI, Roland, with Commander Palmer's voice on their armors' personal comm system.
Palmer: Well congrats on figuring out on getting your toys to work; but as I always say, unless it's able to prove its worth in live combat, it ain't worth shit. Which, fortunately enough, you'll be able to test them; Roland, tell them their upcoming mission.
Roland nods, not really even going to bother with making a snarky remark towards Palmer as he forms another hologram of their target, a planet in the Epsilon Eridani system named Beta Gabriel.
Roland: We've received intel from ONI of an Insurrectionist group down on Beta Gabriel, but whether they're part of the New Colonial Alliance that's been giving us trouble recently or not hasn't been mentioned. Your mission is to go down there, do what trigger happy soldiers do best, and then get access to their data banks so I can get anything useful.
The hologram of the planet zooms in onto a rather large Innie base, with numerous AA guns and dozens of barracks, bunkers, warehouses, and other buildings.
Roland: Now, since this base has large amounts of anti-air placements, enough to seriously damage the Infinity itself, meaning that we can't deploy any dropships or your new Titans. So you three will have to take the drop pods behind you and shut down the AA guns if you want to call them down.
Miranda: Do we have any intel on their forces and armaments?
Another voice, this time a male, announces his presence on their personal radios.
Voice: Spartan Miller here, serving as your mission handler. A pleasure to be working with Spartan Johnson again.
Miranda: Likewise, Miller.
Palmer: Miller, cut the chatter so we can get this mission started.
Miller: Right. From what the Infinity's sensors are able to see, several warthogs and scorpion tanks, half a dozen machine gun emplacements, and about a platoon's worth of infantry. But...
Miranda: But what?
Miller: The sensors aren't showing what's inside the buildings, and that worries me.
Palmer: Don't be, any surprises they encounter wouldn't be a problem for a Spartan, and maybe the Hinge-head.
Fal slumps his shoulders in annoyance at that remark.
Palmer: Now get going, those Innies already know that we're here.
Roland: Yes, they certainly couldn't have missed the five and a half kilometer ship orbiting right above their base. Pods are prepped and ready to drop, all they need is for you to enter them.
